Beyond Surface Care: The Emotional Journey of Skin & Hair Challenges
September carries a lot of weight. It’s both Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Psoriasis Awareness Month, and September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. These causes are deeply personal to me, because my journey with 826 & Co. was born out of grief, healing, and the visible struggles of skin and scalp.
When What’s on the Outside Reflects the Inside
Skin and hair challenges are not “just cosmetic.” They shape how we feel when we look in the mirror, how we show up at work, at gatherings, or even in front of loved ones. Living with conditions like psoriasis, eczema, alopecia, hair loss, cystic acne and more can be exhausting — not only physically but emotionally.
Because these conditions are visible, they can carry a unique kind of weight for those who want to hide it. We can’t always hide it or ourselves. And over time, that visibility can chip away at confidence and affect our mental health.
The Mind–Skin Connection
Science continues to show us how deeply stress and emotions impact skin health. Stress can trigger flare-ups, worsen inflammation, and disrupt the hair growth cycle. On the other hand, the frustration of managing these conditions can also create stress and anxiety, forming a cycle that’s hard to break.
That’s why I believe true care has to go beyond the surface.
